Casma Global Project Advocates for Indigenous Communities in South America

MIAMI, Jan. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In the recent years in Peru's Indigenous communities of Ayacucho, they have been exposed by international mining companies seeking to extract its natural resources for global business developments. The district of Ayacucho is one of the many places where many multinationals have settled and set a deal with the Peruvian government consisting of dodgy contracts that left critics questioning just how legitimate the transparent published data truly is. Communities such as Huallhua, Pallancata, Huancute and Casma Palla'Palla are among the named indigenous populations that received a very scarce government support from shady businesses who disrupt their ecosystem, and destroy their lands, animals and rivers. According to media sources like RPP Noticias, La Republica, El Comercio, PUCP, CNN, and LaMula.pe, all their complaints have been rejected, ignored and their protests were not taken seriously largely due to having been misled into contracts its people were not sure what they were getting themselves into without proper, independent, unbiased legal support.

In the wake of the uprising of British and American mining corporations, a group of American and European volunteers from Universities like Oxford, Birmingham, RTU and Zurich ETZ defended indigenous rights and created the Casma Project, now known as Casma Global. In 2017 the team, under the legal advisory of Dr. Felix Castro and Dr. Mario Cavagnaro, will be launching new websites covering different indigenous cases they have been given permission to publish. The first of the websites are for Huancute and Casma Palla'Palla.

But over the course of 2016 some of the leading founders of the organization were exposed to a series of dangers. Instead, it appears as if the government is attempting to squelch the human rights critics claiming proper legal processes for the less fortunate communities. Since then, confrontations between the natives and the authorities throughout Peru have taken place repeatedly. The websites www.CasmaPallaPalla.org, www.casmapallapalla.com and www.Huancute.com, alongside www.casmapallapalla.blogspot.com and its Twitter account, will be uploading and publishing some of the legally permissible contents the CGP Expedition discovered with its mission to reach and establish further communication with Amnesty International, CIDH, Univision, Telemundo, International Labour Organization, and other renowned organizations.

There has been a lot of criticism against the Peruvian administrations (Ollanta Humala, Alejandro Toledo, Alan Garcia, Valentín Paniagua, Belaunde) who promised many things but delivered nothing. In 2014 and 2015, corporate efforts have been criticized as feeble and inconsistent. In reality, this all seems a new masquerade of the Peruvian government, who are allegedly on double standards with the communities and media.

CasmaPallaPalla.org is a website that has the goal of being a neutral mediator between corporations and indigenous communities in South America by offering legal services. Volunteers have visited Ayacucho and interviewed Casma Palla Palla with the intention that negotiation processes are made with the community's lawyers and project managers. Indigenous community leaders such as Cristina Cayo Pacheco and Santos Sabino Calla-Cayo still want to have an effective, transparent legal discussion about their lands with Hochschild Mining PLC.
