New App Features Research-Proven Math Content that Supports Student Learning in a Digital Classroom

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Carnegie Learning, Inc. announced today the introduction of its newest offering, digitalACE™. digitalACE is an iPad-based application featuring Carnegie Learning’s research-proven core mathematics content for Grades 6–12.

digitalACE was designed to address the challenge of encouraging students to learn mathematics deeply and robustly in the very limited amount of instructional time available in the 21st century classroom. By combining its learning sciences knowledge base with its technical expertise, Carnegie Learning has created an interactive application that supports active learning in middle and high school math classes. With digitalACE, it is now possible for teachers to access all middle school and core high school lesson content regardless of the grade level they are teaching. With this innovative app, educators are able to develop a course curriculum that meets their teaching objectives and their students’ learning goals.

“digitalACE is built for today’s students. The app represents a complete rethinking of the traditional textbook concept,” said Erin Simmons, chief operating officer for Carnegie Learning. “It empowers students to own how they interact with the math content, choose how they express their reasoning with interactive features, and engage with real-world mathematics in a digital device. In addition, educators are able to customize and create their own curricula; access student work in real-time; provide feedback; and select, organize, and present student responses all within the app.”

Carnegie Learning paid close attention to the research regarding both student understanding and management of classroom time when developing digitalACE. The features within the app not only build on the ability of technology to enhance student learning, but also allow teachers to implement mathematics instruction in a way to optimize that learning and overcome constraints such as limited time in the classroom or meeting multiple student needs within a single-teacher classroom.

digitalACE was introduced at the company’s recent 2015 Digital Learning Summit, during which educators shared best practices and strategies for leveraging digital tools to enhance student learning. Attendees were able to attend a local school currently utilizing digitalACE and other digital learning technologies in their mathematics classrooms. Additionally, attendees heard from two industry learning experts, Dr. John Almarode, Visible LearningPLUS Trainer and Assistant Professor at James Madison University, and Julia Freeland Fisher, JD, Director of Education Research at Clayton Christensen Institute for Disruptive Innovation.
