CareerSource Palm Beach County Launches New Virtual Career Center

CareerSource Palm Beach County announced today that it has launched a new virtual career center on its website to meet the changing needs of career seekers and employers who want more services delivered in an online, mobile-friendly environment.

From the home page at http://www.careersourcepbc.com, career seekers will find new and improved features such as a calendar of employers interviewing and on-demand workshops available anytime in the virtual career center. By providing online tools and resources and targeting our services to technology driven career seekers, CareerSource is able to better assist all career seekers, including professionals and college grads/alumni, with 24/7 access to our services and workshops.

"Many of our clients prefer online resources as an option to coming in person to a career center," said Steve Craig, president and chief executive officer of CareerSource Palm Beach County. "The move to more online services improves our efficiency and keeps us relevant and available for today's career seekers and the companies that are hiring them."

The new virtual career center is easy to use and follow with a five-step virtual road to employment success. An online video tutorial provides an overview of each of the five steps:

   •  Online orientation/registration in EmployFlorida Marketplace, the statewide jobs database
   •  Creating winning resumes and cover letters
   •  Online skills assessments to help you examine career options and work environments that are best fits for you
   •  Conducting online job and industry searches
   •  Job interview strategies, techniques and networking to help you land the career of your choice Other helpful information, such as answers to frequently asked questions, is included in the virtual career center. The site also features language translation powered by Google and closed captioning. Additions to the website also include an expanded labor market information and research center for career seekers and businesses. Users can access this section from the "Business & Industry" tab on the CareerSource home page. Information and reports available here include:

   •  Monthly state and local employment and economic reports
   •  Unemployment rates by counties in Florida and cities in Palm Beach County
   •  Number and type of job openings in Palm Beach County
   •  Employment by industry category If you can't find the information you need, you can complete an online request form and the CareerSource research staff will do their best to fulfill your research request at no cost.

Palm Beach County residents can continue to visit career centers to attend job search and career development workshops – all at no cost. Schedules of live workshops and employers who are interviewing at the career centers are posted on the CareerSource Palm Beach County website at http://www.careersourcepbc.com. A resource room with office equipment that can be used for job searching is also available.

Career Centers are open 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays (excluding holidays, such as July 3 for Independence Day) at the following locations:

Services for career seekers: On average, about 7,000 visitors each month receive help from specialized services at two career centers. The centers offer classes and facilities for job search, career development and consulting; and grants for job skills training – all at no cost for career seekers.

Services for employers: CareerSource Palm Beach County provides a comprehensive package of services to help businesses compete in today's challenging marketplace. CareerSource absorbs the cost of most of these services including recruitment, assessments and referrals of qualified job candidates; space and staff assistance for screening/interviewing candidates; and grants for training employees.

CareerSource Palm Beach County assisted more than 28,000 residents find employment in program year 2013-2014, with salaries from these jobs creating an annual average of nearly $560 million in economic impact. The non-profit organization is chartered by the state to lead workforce development in Palm Beach County.
