Canadian operators select Neustar to manage critical telecommunications infrastructure

STERLING, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Neustar, Inc. (NYSE: NSR), a trusted, neutral provider of real-time information services, today announced that the Canadian Local Number Portability Consortium Inc. (CLNPC), has selected Neustar to serve as its Local Number Portability Administrator (LNPA) for the next decade. Under the agreement, Neustar will continue to provide Number Portability Administration Center (NPAC) services to the Canadian telecommunications industry through December 31, 2028.

The Canadian NPAC is a critical part of Canada’s telecommunications infrastructure, connecting every single service provider in the country, enabling consumer choice and competition, and providing accurate routing information for millions of calls and texts daily. The NPAC is a real-time information service, requiring strong neutrality qualifications and compliance with extensive security operations, particularly vital as the telecommunications industry is experiencing significant technology changes.

The CLNPC selected Neustar for its technology, talent and expertise in number portability and addressing services. Neustar has served as the Local Number Portability Administrator (LNPA) for both the United States and Canada for nearly two decades, providing critical infrastructure essential to accurate call routing, consumer choice and competition, as well as foundational support for the communications industry’s transition to IP networks. The Canadian NPAC operates independently from the U.S. NPAC, which is currently undergoing a multi-year transition to Ericsson. That transition was originally intended for July 2015, but has been delayed to at least 2018 according to current published schedules.

“We are delighted to extend the contract with Neustar who has proven to be an exceptional partner to the CLNPC and the Canadian industry. In selecting Neustar, following the issuance of a public request for information and the consideration of all options available to the Canadian industry, the CLNPC has ensured that Canadian operators, consumers and businesses will have uninterrupted number portability services. Our decision process was driven by a broad assessment across all aspects of the service, including the future requirements of our Shareholders. Neustar’s proposal provided the greatest overall value for our clients and consumers,” said Jacques Sarrazin, President and CEO, CLNPC. “With support and confidence from Canadian operators, we look forward to Neustar continuing to be to an excellent supplier to the Canadian industry, and exceeding the requirements of our clients for the next decade.”

“We are proud to extend our successful partnership with the CLNPC and Canadian operators for the next 10 years. The NPAC is a critical component of any country’s telecommunications infrastructure. The CLNPC is comprised of sophisticated and experienced operators, who understand and recognize the vital nature of our NPAC services,” said Lisa Hook, President and Chief Executive Officer, Neustar. “Securing this contract through 2028 is a reflection of our commitment to numbering and addressing services, especially as the telecommunications industry migrates to IP network architectures.”
