California Pharmacists Association Hires Michelle Rivas as Vice President, Center for Advocacy

SACRAMENTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The California Pharmacists Association (CPhA) is pleased to announce today that Michelle Rivas has joined the organization to lead the CPhA government affairs and public policy unit, the Center for Advocacy. The Center for Advocacy is responsible for representing pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and student pharmacists in advancing the interests of the profession and the patients they serve. Ms. Rivas will oversee activities in the State Capitol and before the regulatory agency, the California State Board of Pharmacy.

Ms. Rivas comes to CPhA with twenty years of legislative, grassroots, and advocacy experience, primarily in the health professions. Her health policy experience began in the government relations office of the California Medical Association (CMA). She learned the workings of the capitol during her tenure in the legislative office of Governor Pete Wilson before an extensive 16-year career with the California Dental Association (CDA) as manager of political and external affairs. In her role at CDA she provided leadership to the association’s legislative, political advocacy, and grassroots activities. Michelle’s most recent position within CDA was working for the philanthropic arm of the organization.

Ms. Rivas is a well-known figure in Sacramento as an advocate for education and children. She was elected to the Twin Rivers School District Board of Trustees in 2007 and currently serves as Board President. Additionally, she is the Chair of the Sunrise Recreation and Park District Board of Advisors.

She has received numerous awards of distinction from both professional organizations and political figures for her volunteerism and advocacy efforts.

Rivas will begin with CPhA on February 1st.
