CURE® Announces Call for Nominations for GBM Heroes to Be Recognized at Night of Celebration During 21st Annual Scientific Meeting of Society for Neuro-Oncology

CURE� magazine is calling for nominations for its Glioblastoma (GBM) Heroes who will be recognized at a gala celebration in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Nov. 18, during the 21st Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society for Neuro-Oncology. Fran Drescher--actress, author, health advocate, cancer survivor and founder of the Cancer Schmancer Movement--will be the guest speaker at the second annual event.

CURE magazine's GBM Heroes Recognition program, sponsored by global oncology company Novocure, is accepting nominations from patients, healthcare professionals and advocates for GBM Heroes who have made a difference in the lives of people with GBM. Four winners and the individuals who nominated them will join CURE in Scottsdale to be honored at the 2nd Annual GBM Heroes Recognition.

Glioblastoma multiforme is the most aggressive and most common form of primary brain tumor in the U.S. and affects approximately 10,000 people every year. The median overall survival time from initial diagnosis is 15 months with optimal treatment; median survival from the time of tumor recurrence is 3 to 5 months without additional effective treatments.

Fran Drescher is a 16-year uterine cancer survivor. She is well recognized for her portrayal as "Miss Fine" in the hit series The Nanny, for which she received two Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations. She is the author of New York Times best-sellers Cancer Schmancer and Enter Whining, as well as a children's book entitled Being Wendy. As a cancer advocate and founder of the Cancer Schmancer Movement, she focuses on a three-pronged approach to fighting the disease: early detection, prevention and advocacy.
