CEA's Groundbreaking Book Digital Destiny Comes to China

May 24, 2015 8:00 PM EDT

Now available online for presale; available nationwide June 8

SHANGHAI--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today announced that Digital Destiny: How the New Age of Data Will Change the Way We Work, Live, and Communicate will make its debut in China at the inaugural CES AsiaTM, which will run May 25-27 in Shanghai. Already a New York Times best-seller in the United States, CEA’s latest book is now available for presale in China and will be available nationwide in Mandarin Chinese starting June 8. CES Asia, produced by CEA and co-produced by INTEX, showcases the full breadth and depth of the innovation value-chain in the Asian marketplace.

In this provocative new book, CEA’s Chief Economist and Lead Technologist Shawn DuBravac, Ph.D., explores what happens when everything – from our cars to our homes to our health care systems – is digitized. Dr. DuBravac will discuss the trends laid out in Digital Destiny at CES Asia, during his Tech Trends to Watch presentation at 11:45 AM, Tuesday, May 26, in the Kerry Hotel, Level 3, Grand Shanghai Ballroom 1. DuBravac will hold a book signing immediately following his presentation in the same room.

Digital Destiny offers readers a sneak peek of mankind’s future,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “Drawing on Shawn’s more than 15 years examining trends in the consumer technology industry, Digital Destiny doesn’t just predict future technologies or trends; it unveils a future in which digital data will solve many of humanity’s most ancient problems, create new challenges and transform life as we know it.”

Digital Destiny unveils a world where the mass adoption of driverless cars, powered by highly-developed sensors, will save hundreds of thousands of lives every year around the world. It shows how millennia-old barriers, such as those that force us to live in a certain city, take a certain job or purchase certain items, will give way to a world that caters to individual desires and needs. Our digital future is a world where massive inefficiencies, such as the supply chains in Africa that allow food to rot before it can feed the hungry, will give way to sustainable communities. It’s a world where digital mechanisms will take over more and more of our lives, but where an individual will have more freedom in action, work, health and pursuits than ever before.

“Most consumers perceive the digital age as simply the accumulation of sleeker and more powerful gadgets,” said DuBravac. “I hope to broaden readers’ views to include an understanding that in the not-so-distant future mankind will have thoroughly replaced analog for digital in every corner of our lives, and as a result everything from business to health care to travel and down to the foundation of culture itself is changed.”

Digital Destiny continues the themes set forth in CEA’s first two books, New York Times best-sellers The Comeback: How Innovation Will Restore the American Dream (Beaufort, 2011) and Ninja Innovation: The Ten Killer Strategies of the World’s Most Successful Businesses (Harper Collins, 2013), both of which were authored by Shapiro. Digital Destiny explores the role of innovation in driving a variety of transformative technologies and technology trends.

CEA is the owner and producer of CES®, the world’s gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies.

What Others are Saying About Digital Destiny

Digital Destiny...asks what the world might look like once the so-called Internet of Things has come to pass, connecting not just phones and household appliances but cars, clothing and even our bodies to the web. Answer: pretty darn cool.” – Gregory Cowles, Book Preview Editor, New York Times

“As I started reading Shawn’s book, I thought it overly optimistic, but he provides many current, real-world examples of how connectivity and online services are changing our lives today, let alone tomorrow. Very thought-provoking and, for me, cautionary.” – Vint Cerf, Internet pioneer and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google

“DuBravac’s message is clear: the digital revolution will profoundly change how we communicate with one another and with the world around us. Digital Destiny explores how sensor-driven data will unlock potential for new business and industry in ways never before imaginable.” – Tyler Cowen, New York Times columnist and professor of economics

“Shawn DuBravac has written a highly intelligent and fair interpretation of the networked future. This is exactly the kind of nuanced and well-informed analysis of our big data world which will make this future more inhabitable. Strongly recommended.” – Andrew Keen, Internet entrepreneur and tech commentator
