CCAGW Praises FY 2016 Senate Balanced Budget Resolution

March 19, 2015 12:27 PM EDT

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) praised Senate Budget Committee Chairman Mike Enzi’s (R-Wyo.) fiscal year (FY) 2016 Budget Resolution. The blueprint balances the budget in 10 years, a clear divergence from President Obama’s budget, which never balances at all.

The budget proposal contains a number of positive steps forward for taxpayers. The commitment that the appropriations process will begin on time will help to prevent the reemergence of bloated omnibus spending bills that have in the past become pork-laden monstrosities. It will also allow for the reconciliation process to move forward, allowing the opportunity to repeal ObamaCare and address other critical issues. The budget resolution also addresses wasteful spending, including budget process reforms and greater transparency.

The budget resolution demonstrates a commitment to increase the flexibility of the states in administering programs like Medicaid and other welfare programs. This will spur innovation and save taxpayers money. Government that is closer to the people governs more effectively, with less waste and more accountability.

Unlike President Obama’s budget, the committee’s budget resolution addresses the financial problems facing Social Security and Medicare.

“We are encouraged by Chairman Enzi’s budget proposal and look forward to working closely with the committee to safeguard the interests of taxpayers,” CCAGW President Tom Schatz said. “With the national debt at more than $18 trillion, it is time to balance the budget and end deficit spending in Washington.”

The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste is the lobbying arm of the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
