Build It Green Joins DOE's Home Upgrade Program Accelerator, Expands Commitment to Energy Efficiency in California

Oakland, CA (PRWEB) May 30, 2015

Build It Green has joined the U.S. Department of Energy's newly launched Better Buildings Home Upgrade Program Accelerator, which will convene leaders to focus on key solutions to expanding energy efficiency in the residential sector. Thirty-two organizations across the nation have partnered together to refine processes to measure and evaluate energy savings, and help reach a collective goal of completing millions of home energy upgrades annually.

The Program Accelerator supports the President's Climate Action Plan, with the goal of accelerating investment in home energy efficiency improvement projects across the country. The program connects home energy efficiency programs managed by utilities and state and local governments, which currently complete hundreds of thousands of home upgrades annually with an average savings of 20 percent for participating households. By leveraging data management and other strategies that minimize costs while improving overall program effectiveness these programs could complete millions of home energy upgrades annually, helping more Americans save money on their home energy bills.

"This is a great opportunity to develop new processes and business models for delivering home upgrades faster, cheaper, and better," says Bruce Mast, Deputy Executive Director of Build It Green, a California-based nonprofit working to incentivize adoption of green building practices and increase the supply of green homes in California.

"By improving the efficiency of buildings across the country, Better Buildings partners are saving money by saving energy, creating more sustainable communities, and helping to protect future generations from the impacts of climate change," says DOE Under Secretary for Science and Energy Franklin Orr.
