Baidu Appoints Yuanqing Lin, Computer Vision Expert, to Lead Baidu Research's Institute of Deep Learning

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/05/15 -- Baidu Research, a division of Baidu, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIDU), today announced it has appointed Yuanqing Lin as director of the Institute of Deep Learning (IDL).
Lin, whose appointment takes effect today, reports to Andrew Ng, Baidu's chief scientist and leader of Baidu Research.
Lin most recently served as head of the Media Analytics Department at NEC Labs America, where he led teams focused on computer vision research related to mobile search and self-driving cars.

Lin is an active member of the computer vision and machine learning communities. He holds an M.S. degree in Optical Engineering from Tsinghua University and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
IDL is one of three research labs under the umbrella of Baidu Research. The others are the Silicon Valley AI Lab, directed by Adam Coates, and the Big Data Lab, directed by Tong Zhang.
