Babson One Of Only 50 Featured In New Princeton Review Book, "Colleges That Create Futures"

Noted by The Princeton Review Senior VP Publisher as "stellar at putting the 'hire' in 'higher education'"

WELLESLEY, Mass., Sept. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Babson College is one of the nation's best institutions at offering its undergraduate students both outstanding academics and experiential learning opportunities, according to The Princeton Review. The education services company profiles the school in its new book, Colleges That Create Futures: 50 Schools That Launch Careers by Going Beyond the Classroom.

Out of several hundred colleges considered, the 50 schools that made the cut comprise only about 2 percent of the nation's approximately 2,600 four-year colleges. The Princeton Review editors specifically weighed information about the colleges' career center services, internship, externship, cooperative learning, and collaborative research opportunities, and student engagement in community service and study abroad programs.  Visit http://bit.ly/1LtMk54.

The following unique aspects of an undergraduate Babson College experience are highlighted:

  • Foundations of Management and Entrepreneurship (FME)
  • Center for Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership (CWEL)
  • Coaching for Leadership and Teamwork Program (CLTP)
  • Experiential Learning, including Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE)
  • Natalie Taylor and Grossman Scholar Programs.

According to the book:

"It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Babson College, which offers a Bachelor of Science degree in business and a wide variety of concentrations, wrote the book on teaching entrepreneurship. In fact, the school invented its own methodology, called Entrepreneurial Thought and Action(r), which balances a deep understanding of business fundamentals with action, experimentation, and creativity. Frequently topping The Princeton Review's ranking list of Top Entrepreneurial Programs for undergrads, the college has a stellar rep for business, and the students know it. 'I really wanted to study business, and I knew Babson had the best hands-on curriculum. Every student graduating from Babson has taken part in running a business, [has] a background in all aspects of business (law, accounting, marketing, finance, organizational behavior, etc.) and [gets] exposure to an international community,' one student tells us.

"But Babson also understands that an entrepreneurial spirit knows no 'artificial barriers between disciplines.' Along with the academic divisions that you might expect from a business school, like marketing and finance, is a liberal arts focus that you may not: History, society, and the humanities all have a place in a Babson education. In fact, the school says that part of its job is to show budding entrepreneurs how liberal arts skills 'play into businesses of all types and sizes.'"

"Simply put, Babson and the other colleges we chose for this book are stellar at putting the 'hire' in 'higher education,'" said The Princeton Review Senior VP-Publisher Robert Franek. "We commend these schools for the extraordinary opportunities they are giving their students for practical, hands-on learning that complements their academic experiences."

Colleges That Create Futures Methodology

The selection process factored in data from the company's surveys of administrators at hundreds of universities between 2013 and 2015, and of 18,000 students attending the schools. The Princeton Review also conducted 200 interviews with current faculty, administrators, and alumni of schools in making its choices of the final 50 colleges featured. The online feature includes articles with advice for students interested in experiential learning programs. It also has a fun quiz that students can take that returns a list of colleges in the book that might be an ideal choice based on their interests and talents.
