Award-Winning Author, Youth and Teen Expert, Josh Shipp, to Speak Aug. 25 in Cherry Hills Village, Sponsored by The Adoption Exchange

July 29, 2016 5:16 PM EDT

AURORA, Colo., July 29, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former at-risk foster kid turned global youth advocate and expert on understanding teen behavior, will headline a double-header event at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Ave., in Cherry Hills Village, Thursday, Aug. 25, with a 'teens only' talk from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. and 'adults only' presentation from 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The event is sponsored locally, by Aurora, CO-based nonprofit, The Adoption Exchange (TAE).

"Josh Shipp brings a unique perspective and gravitas to the subjects that trouble both teens and parents," says Jill Crewes, Sr. Director of Family Support Services at TAE. "Our primary focus is youth living in the U.S. foster care system and how we connect them to relationships that will last a lifetime. Josh says his number one goal as a kid was to see how fast and how many foster care homes he could be thrown out of before aging out of the system, but soon realized that 'Every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story.' His is a powerful message that is respected by teens and adults alike, and we're thrilled to have him speak at our event," Crewes added.

Shipp's session for teens (5 p.m. – 6 p.m.), titled: "The Teens Guide to World Domination" will focus on: making 'SMART' choices, overcoming adversity, how to get and stay motivated, positively influencing your peers and practical solutions for bullying.

The session for adults (7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.) will focus on "The Grownups Guide to Teenage Humans." Specific topics that will be covered are: the five common mistakes to avoid, how to get through to any teen, case studies of what works and what doesn't, simple and effective ways to let teens know you care, and a helpful real-time questions and answers section between Shipp and attendees.

Space for the event is limited to the first 650 for each session, so online registration is required. To register, go to www.adoptex.org/events. For more information call 800.451.5246.
