Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) September 02, 2015

Lakeview Health, a nationally recognized drug and alcohol addiction treatment center, is helping to bring awareness to International Overdose Awareness Day. The goal is to provide people information regarding drugs and alcohol, and inspire people to pause to recognize the warning signs so that they may get help.

Lakeview Health will be publishing information at the center's official website at LakeviewHealth.com throughout the day. Articles and other helpful information on addiction will also be available on RecoveryConnection.com, a collaborative portal featuring experts from across the country. Those who may have lost a loved one to an overdose will find instructions on how to share their story online as a tribute.

What is an Overdose?

An overdose means having too much of one of more drugs for your body to be able to process. There are a number of signs and symptoms that indicate someone has overdosed, and these differ with the type of drug used.

Amphetamine overdoses appear different from an opioid OD, and signs and symptoms include:

Chest pain
Disorientation/confusion
Severe headache
Seizures
High temperature (overheating, but not sweating)
Difficulty breathing
Agitation and paranoia
Hallucinations
Unconsciousness

Signs of alcohol intoxication to the point of overdose include:
