Steffy, a graduate of Millersville State College with a B.S. in environmental biology, began his career at Aqua in 1982 as a microbiology technician, quickly becoming a microbiologist in Aqua’s Pennsylvania-state-certified lab. He transferred to operations in 1987 as a systems supervisor in the treatment department and three years later was promoted to assistant superintendent of treatment and superintendent of treatment before continuing through the ranks to become assistant manager of treatment in 1998.

In 2005, he was promoted to manager of production, assuming primary responsibility for the surface water treatment plants, where he worked diligently during many major plant upgrades and rebuilding projects. He helped prepare the plants to qualify for membership in the Partnership for Safe Water Program, a unique national cooperative effort developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other water organizations that encourage and assist U.S. water suppliers to voluntarily enhance their water systems performance, for greater control of Cryptosporidium, Giardia and other microbial contaminants.

“Curt has played a key role in our production and treatment departments for many years, and over the past 18 months has taken on added responsibilities as his predecessor was assigned to special projects,” said Aqua President Steve Tagert. “I have the utmost confidence in Curt’s ability to lead the production team. His knowledge and work ethics will ensure that customers continue to receive quality water each and every day.”

Steffy is a member of AWWA, Waterworks Operators of Pennsylvania, the Department of Environmental Protection Partnership for Safe Drinking Water, is a board member of the DEP State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators and an alternate board member of the DEP Technical Assistance Center Board for Small Water Systems. He was awarded the PA AWWA Operator’s Meritorious Service Award Recipient in 2009 and is the author of an AWWA Opflow paper on air assisted backwash.
