PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael R. Zomber, the world-renowned antique arms and armors expert who was exonerated after being falsely imprisoned in 2003, has acquired a Bowie Knife with a contemporary engraved inscription claiming that it was taken from John Brown by his attempted assassin.

John Brown was a radical abolitionist well-known for his belief that armed insurrection was the only way to rid the United States of slavery.  He was eventually tried and hanged for his actions against the South.

The knife, described by Sotheby's as, "a remarkable artifact from one of the bloodiest periods in American history," features a coffin-handle, spear-point blade, and a nickel handle inlaid with mother of pearl.

"This knife is a rare treasure from a period in history I am particularly interested in and passionate about," Michael Zomber explained.  "Brown was a key player in the abolitionist movement, and it is an honor to own a piece of his personal history."

Zomber has authored and published two historical fiction novels that revolve around the lives of people affected by the Civil War, they include A Son of Kentucky and Sweet Betsy That's Me.  A Son of Kentucky paints a picture of life in rural America prior to the Civil War through the story of Josiah Johnson, a poor tobacco farmer in Kentucky who refuses to use slave labor on principle, while Sweet Betsy That's Me, is the story of a young girl on a farm in western Kentucky that recreates the day her father comes home from the Civil War after being wounded at the battle of Gettysburg.

This recent acquisition has lead fans of Zomber's writing to wonder whether or not it is a foreshadowing of a possible novel about Brown to come.

Zomber will not confirm or deny this rumor but says, "this knife has definitely caused the creative wheels to turn once again."
