Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals to Hold Emergency Response Scenario, this Wednesday, August 31

ROCKVILLE, Md., Aug. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In conjunction with its 2016 Annual Conference, the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP) will be hosting an Emergency Response Scenario (ERS) demonstration.

This year's scenario, our most realistic to date, will focus on the inherent dangers of chemicals and how the mixing of incompatible chemicals can increase these hazards exponentially. Add into the mix some street chemists not following safety precautions, and you have a recipe for disaster.

The scenario, which will be created by Signature Science, LLC, will demonstrate the unique challenges associated with multiple chemical releases, using a backdrop of a mobile drug lab. AHMP's response partners—the Hazmat Unit of D.C.'s Fire and EMS Department and Triumvirate Environmental Inc.—will be given very general information to work from (just like in the real world) and, using this information, will demonstrate their procedures and techniques for responding to this type of incident. And, just like in an actual occurrence, the D.C.'s Department of Energy and Environment will be on hand to oversee the situation.

"It provides an opportunity for our host community to hone their skills so they can be prepared for any contingency that may come their way." Personnel from all parties will provide ongoing commentary during the exercise, followed by a Q&A session and an opportunity to examine the equipment and gear up close.
