(PRWEB UK) 27 November 2015

The Alexir Partnership are delighted that their newly established division, Alexir Digital, won the Investment Project of the Year category at the 2015 UK Packaging Awards on 18th November, despite stiff competition. The winners were announced at a glittering awards ceremony at the London Hilton on Park Lane with 700 packaging industry colleagues in the audience. A drinks reception and gala dinner was followed by the ceremony which saw the announcement of the winners by comedian Simon Evans. Evans is an established act on the UK comedy circuit who has also appeared on TV shows such as 'Live at the Apollo' and 'Mock the Week'.

The packs, companies and individuals vying for an award were examined by a stellar line-up of judges including representatives from RB, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, SAB Miller and Marks & Spencer.

"A very positive, strong investment." said one of the judges. "It's a potential game changer that will add business; real investment. A bold move in the innovative area of digital."

The Alexir Partnership won the Cartonboard Pack of the Year in 2014 in the same ceremony with the simple yet innovative Peppersmith clipstrip.

About Alexir Digital and the Alexir Partnership

The Alexir Partnership, and their new digital division, has become the first carton-converter in the UK to install an in-line digital solution for folding cartons with a Xerox iGen4, TRESU coater, KAMA cutter and Esko plotter. The digital press, with a thick stock capability up to 610 microns, is the first Xerox digital press with these heavier weight options in Europe and was installed in May alongside the coater. The KAMA ProCut 76 was delivered into the Edenbridge site in October and completes the inline digital solution with a capability of cutting and creasing 6000 sheets per hour. At the same time an Esko Flatbed Plotter was installed into the digital department and has a capability of cutting 52metres per minute. This investment was made to cater for the short-run packaging needs of their customers.

The decision to add digital print to the Alexir Partnership business has been heavily influenced by their customers who told them they needed a cost effective option to produce short runs of packaging and to be more reactive and flexible to changing market conditions. It also complements all the different arms of the partnership, from their design studios through to their specialist food co-packing site in Uckfield.
