-- Online School Students Hit Classrooms Without Ever Leaving Home --

MERIDIAN, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- New school supplies and meeting new teachers are still part of the first day of school for Idaho Virtual Academy (IDVA) students across the state. They will meet in homeroom to catch up with classmates from last year, but there won’t be any backpacks, school cafeteria food or catching the bus for these students. Instead, they will log-in to their virtual homeroom as they attend school full-time online.

IDVA is a tuition-free, online public school available to students in grades K-12 across the state of Idaho. Students use the internet to access the engaging, award-winning K12 curriculum. A public school choice, IDVA gives parents and families the opportunity to maximize their success with personalized learning. The 2016-17 school year will begin on September 6. IDVA has been operating in the state since 2002.

Similar to any first day of school, students meet virtually with their Idaho-credentialed teachers and log in to explore the topics they will study that year. While the technology makes it possible to focus on each student’s individual academic challenges and strengths, it is the partnership between parents and teachers that makes online learning a powerful education alternative for a variety of students.

Students enroll in IDVA for a wide variety of reasons. Some are advanced learners, motivated to increase their knowledge beyond the basic course offerings, while others are athletes or performers looking to balance a full schedule, as well as those who benefit from a different learning environment and a focused one-on-one learning experience.

IDVA teachers provide a child-centered learning experience, offering instruction and support, one-on-one guidance, and interaction with students and parents via an online classroom, email, phone or face-to-face meetings. Students have a vibrant school community with plenty of social interaction as well, working with peers in the online classroom and gathering in-person for events like class outings, science fairs, and service projects.

“Idaho Virtual Academy is focused around each student’s needs – whether that is helping them advance through the curriculum or spending more time with them on a subject where they need more support,” said Kelly Edginton, Head of School for IDVA. “I am proud of our teachers and the individual attention our school can provide to our students and families."

IDVA is still accepting enrollment of student in grades K-12 for the 2016-17 school year. Idaho families are invited to learn more about online education by signing up for in-person events and online information sessions being held across the state.
