30-Year Fixed Mortgage Rates Rise on Strong U.S. Economic Data; Current Rate is 3.32%, According to Zillow Mortgage Rate Ticker

July 19, 2016 2:00 PM EDT

SEATTLE, July 19, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The 30-year fixed mortgage rate on Zillow® Mortgages is currently 3.32 percent, up four basis points from this time last week. The 30-year fixed mortgage hovered around 3.35 percent for most of the week before settling at the current rate on Tuesday.

“Mortgage rates edged higher last week due to the combination of strong U.S. data and a return to relative normalcy in the U.K.,” said Erin Lantz, vice president of mortgages at Zillow. “Markets should be fairly stable in this data-sparse week in the U.S., although the European Central Bank’s Thursday meeting could cause some market movements.”

Zillow’s real-time mortgage rates are based on thousands of custom mortgage quotes submitted daily to anonymous borrowers on the Zillow Mortgages site and reflect the most recent changes in the market. These are not marketing rates, or a weekly survey.

The rate for a 15-year fixed home loan is currently 2.61 percent, while the rate for a 5-1 adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) is 2.71 percent.
