105 Cities Meet White House Challenge to Have Police-Community Dialogues
WASHINGTON, Aug. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today the National League of Cities (NLC) and the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) announced that 105 cities across the country are hosting community conversations or engaging in other efforts to strengthen trust between the police and the communities they serve. The announcement comes exactly four weeks after President Obama urged all Americans to do whatever they can to foster these conversations and find solutions for their communities. At that time, the president also asked the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities to help make these conversations occur – in 100 cities in 30 days.
Also today, USCM released a report detailing efforts in 49 cities to hold community conversations and further strengthen police-community relations, and NLC posted a blog highlighting six cities where police-community dialogues are part of sustained efforts to advance racial equity in city governments.
A complete list of cities that reported on their efforts to NLC and USCM can be found at www.nlc.org/community-dialogues
