Notable ETF Movers of the Day:
Gainers
- United States Oil (NYSE: USO) up 1.82% to $37.39. March deliveries of WTI are up $1.99 to $76.42 as thoughts toward an improving global economy are driving up speculation of increased demand. Mondaysaw a report of increased economic demand as manufacturing clicked up a tick for December, and today has a 1% increase in pending home sales. Corporate profits from big oil also are driving prices north somewhat.
- SPDR S&P Homebuilders (NYSE: XHB) up 4.2% to $15.80. Shares are up on D.R. Horton's (NYSE: DHI) Q110 earinings report that beats Street estimates and coupled in a positive outlook for the future. This is the first profit that Horton posted since the housing slump began.
- iShares Dow Jones US Home Construction (NYSE: ITB) up 4.12% to $12.88. Up on D R. Horton news as well as Pending Home Sales up 1% for the month of December 2009.
Losers
- iShares MSCI Taiwan Index (NYSE: EWT) down 1.16% to $11.90. The ETF is down as concerns rise over China's attempt to block U.S. companies from bidding to sell arms to the island nation.
- Market Vectors Coal ETF (NYSE: KOL) down 0.44% to $33.76. Down on Patroit Coal (NYSE: PCX) Q409 loss, and a stock sale of nearly $2 million by Peabody (NYSE: BTU) CEO Gregory Boyce.
