Morning Movers 10/14: ACPW, CNO, ZIOP, CHIO, JADE Higher; UPI, UCBH Lower
Active Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACPW) 38.5% HIGHER; today announced it has received a second multimillion dollar order from one of the world's largest Internet search engine providers for more than 16 megawatts of its CleanSource UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems.
Conseco, Inc. (NYSE: CNO) 24.3% HIGHER; announced today that, as part of a series of transactions intended to enhance its capital position, it entered into a stock and warrant purchase agreement with John Paulson's Paulson & Co. Inc., on behalf of the several investment funds and accounts managed by it, to sell to Paulson 16.4 million shares of common stock and warrants to purchase 5.0 million shares of common stock for an aggregate purchase price of $77.9 million. ZIOPHARM Oncology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ZIOP) 23.9% HIGHER; announced today positive top line interim data from the multicenter randomized Phase II trial of palifosfamide (Zymafos, ZIO-201). Palifosfamide is used in the treatment of patients with unresectable or metastatic soft tissue sarcoma.
China INSOnline Corp. (NASDAQ: CHIO) 22% HIGHER; reports FY09 EPS of $0.23, compared to $0.25 in the same quarter last year. Revenue for the fiscal year was $17.9 million, versus $13.7 million in FY08.
Uroplasty Inc. (AMEX: UPI) 15.3% LOWER; up more than 60% in the last 3 trading sessions. Last night, the NYSE contacted Uroplasty in view of the unusual market activity in the company's stock. The company stated that its policy is not to comment on unusual market activity.
LJ International Inc. (NASDAQ: JADE) 14.9% HIGHER; sees Q3 sales over $25 million and EPS of $0.03-$0.05. Sales at this level would represent a 22% drop in sales from the $32.9 million reported in the same quarter last year. Meanwhile, LJ reported earnings of $0.02 in Q308. As expected, the 40% decrease in wholesale revenues was due to the ongoing recession in the U.S. The decline is expected to be offset by an approximate 25% increase in revenues from the Company's ENZO division to over $11 million.
UCBH Holdings (Nasdaq: UCBH) 14.8% LOWER; continues to trade with extreme volatility. The stock seems to be correcting following a 10% rise yesterday.
BioMimetic Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: BMTI) 14.7% HIGHER; announced positive top-line results from its North American pivotal (Phase III) randomized controlled trial comparing its fully synthetic, off-the-shelf bone growth factor product, Augment Bone Graft, to autograft for use in hindfoot and ankle fusion surgery.
