Merriman Curhan Ford initiates coverage on Novavax (Nasdaq: NVAX) with a Buy rating and $6-$8 price target range.
The firm said, "We believe Novavax represents the future of vaccine research with cutting edge technology that employs virus like particles to mimic a real virus, thereby eliciting an immune response. Since Novavax does not employ classic attenuated viral particles, their vaccines are able to be used by immunocompromised patients, safely. Novavax's vaccine technology employs recombinant technology along with disposable equipment which allows for rapid vaccine development and manufacturing. This rapid turnaround allows Novavax to develop vaccines at a rate that helps avoid genetic drift, which often hinders egg-based vaccines."
The firm said Novavax is preparing for a break-out year in 2010.

Thank you and it is about time someone albeit long overdue has taken notice that NVAX has and continues to research not only a vaccine for today but as importent the way they produce it in such a short period of time. Yes, I own some stock in this company for all the reasons stated now but I felt it was the way to go almost a year ago. What about pandemic don't we understand yet!

They bemoan the fact that vaccine is in short supply, we have no good alternative, blah blah...meanwhile, NVAX is putting out cutting edge stuff that should be getting FDA fast track priority and govt assistance in Phase III.....Phase II is complete with great results, immunogenicity and safe.

If our federal government had funded Novavax with half as much resources as they poured into foreign egg based vaccine producers, the H1N1 pandemic would now have already been laid to rest. It's in reality, a sad time in America when big pharma , with their deep pockets, can manipulate via lobbyist our elected congressmen / women, to the point they become blinded by greed, forgetting who's their boss.
