Benchmark Slaps a Sell Rating on ValueClick (VCLK)

April 14, 2009 9:00 AM EDT

Benchmark Capital initiates coverage on ValueClick (Nasdaq: VCLK) with a Sell rating and $7 price target, citing an inconsistent operating history and they view the recent indications of an overall Internet rebound as a "head fake."

Benchmark expects domestic Internet advertising to be flat in 2009. They said checks indicate a poor start to the year and almost zero visibility.

The firm said the recession hit ValueClick particularly hard in its advertising network and comparison shopping websites. They note ValueClick has minimal exposure to search, the most resilient advertising segment. They see 2009 revenue at the company down 19% and market share losses.
