Unusual 11 Mid-Day Movers 8/12: USS, APII, CMLS, LDK Higher; ALTU, SCA, SIL, COMV Lower

Altus Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: ALTU) 48.4% LOWER; announced today that its Phase 3 efficacy trial of Trizytek(TM) in patients with cystic fibrosis successfully met its primary endpoint of improvement in fat absorption, however, analysts were expecting a larger improvement. Also, Altus said that some patients in other counties did not show any improvements versus the placebo.

Syncora Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: SCA) 34.3% LOWER; reports a Q2 loss of $7.67, including items, and does not compare to the analyst estimate of ($0.06). Revenues for the quarter were $23.05 million, versus the consensus of $33.88 million. Also announced that Paul Giordano, the company's CEO and President, will step down from his position and resign from the company's Board, effective August 15, 2008. Susan Comparato will serve as the company's Acting CEO and President.

Apex Silver Mines Limited (AMEX: SIL) 34.2% LOWER; reports Q2 GAAP EPS of $2.57, which does not compare to the analyst estimate of ($0.40). Revenues for the quarter were $60 million, versus the consensus of $98 million.

Comverge (Nasdaq: COMV) 32.2% LOWER; reports Q2 loss of $0.45 per share, below the consensus of a $0.38 loss. Revenues came in at $9.5 million, versus the consensus of $13.4 million. Sees FY08 revenues of of $80-$90 million, versus the consensus of $99.41 million.

U.S. Shipping Partners L.P. (NYSE: USS) 31.6% HIGHER; reports a Q2 loss of $0.14, 1 cent better than the analyst estimate of ($0.15). Revenues for the quarter were $49.8 million, versus the consensus of $42.13 million.

ACI Worldwide, Inc. (Nasdaq: ACIW) 28.6% LOWER; reports Q2 EPS of $0.02, 8 cents lower than the analyst estimate of $0.10. Revenues for the quarter were $99.9 million, versus the consensus of $98.47 million.

Action Products International, Inc. (NASDAQ: APII) 23% HIGHER; today announced that it has entered a letter of intent for the acquisition of B.E. Overseas Investment Group, LLC.

Cumulus Media Inc. (Nasdaq: CMLS) 19.4% HIGHER; reports Q2 EPS of $0.70, which does not compare to the analyst estimate of $0.10. Revenues for the quarter were $83.6 million, versus the consensus of $84.50 million. Sees Q3 sales down 3-4%.

LDK Solar Co., Ltd. (NYSE: LDK) 18.2% HIGHER; reports Q2 EPS of $1.29, versus analyst estimate of $0.42. Revenues for the quarter were $441.7 million, versus the consensus of $282.04 million. Sees FY08 $1.65 billion to $1.75 billion versus $1.16 billion consensus. The stock was also upgraded by Piper Jaffray today from Sell to Hold.

Capstone Turbine (Nasdaq: CPST) 12.8% HIGHER; reports a Q1 loss of $0.07, 2 cents lower than the analyst estimate of ($0.05). Revenues for the quarter were $7.5 million, versus the consensus of $9.73 million.

Converted Organics Inc. (NASDAQ: COIN) 12.6% HIGHER; today announced that the company is poised to proceed with the development of its third organic soil amendment and fertilizer manufacturing facility in the U.S. Specifically, on August 1, the Rhode Island Industrial Facilities Corporation gave initial approval to the Company's Revenue Bond Financing Application for up to $15 million for the construction of the new Converted Organics facility in Johnston, R.I. On August 5, the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation gave final approval to Converted Organics to lease nine acres of land in the newly created Lakeside Commerce Industrial Park in Johnston.
