Pre-Open Movers 11/14: Canadian Solar (CSIQ) Soars, Bear (BSC) Comments Help Financials

Canadian Solar Inc. (Nasdaq: CSIQ) 27% HIGHER; Net revenues for the quarter were $97.4 million, including $3.8 million of silicon material sales, compared to net revenues of $17.8 million for the third quarter of 2006 and $60.4 million for the second quarter of 2007. Net income for the quarter was $0.5 million, or $0.02 per diluted share, compared to net income of $0.24 million, or $0.01 per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2006 and net loss of $2.9 million, or $0.11 per diluted share, for the second quarter of 2007. Excluding share-based compensation expenses of $2.4 million, non-GAAP net income for the quarter would have been $3.0 million, or $0.11 per diluted share.
Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd. (NYSE: EXM) 15% LOWER; reported Q3 EPS of $0.96, 11 cents lower than the analyst estimate of $1.07. Revenues for the quarter were $43.2 million, versus the consensus of $45.27 million. Excel's Board of Directors also announced it has initiated a $0.20 quarterly dividend.
3SBio Inc (Nasdaq: SSRX) 14% HIGHER; reported Q3 EPS of $0.15, 3 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.12. Revenues for the quarter were $7.5 million, versus the consensus of $6.52 million.
National Atlantic Holdings Corporation (Nasdaq: NAHC) 10% HIGHER; engaged Bank of America Securities LLC to assist the Company in its review of strategic alternatives.
La-Z-Boy Inc. (NYSE: LZB) 8% LOWER; reported Q2 EPS of $0.01, 6 cents lower than the analyst estimate of $0.07. Revenues for the quarter were $365 million, versus the consensus of $377.67 million. La-Z-Boy expects 2H08 EPS of $0.06 to $0.14.
Ventana Medical Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: VMSI) 7% HIGHER; entered into a confidentiality agreement with Roche. In the past, Ventana rejected Roche's $75 takeover bid.
Bois d'Arc Energy, Inc (NYSE: BDE) 7% LOWER; Concludes Review of Strategic Alternatives with no deal.
Bear Stearns (NYSE: BSC) 6% HIGHER; Higher in pre-open action following comments on a Merrill Lynch conference. Investors are feeling better after the company said it sees a Q4 writedown of $1.2 billion and said it now has a net subprime exposure of negative $52 million, versus $1 billion at the end of August. CDO related exposure is now at $884 million, down from $2 billion. The company also said it hopes the worst in mortgages is behind them.
Lululemon's (Nasdaq: LULU) 6.9% HIGHER; According to reports from the New York Times, Lululemon's claim of clothes made with seaweed may not be true.
E*TRADE Financial (Nasdaq: ETFC) 6% HIGHER; Continues today's 41% recovery on word CEO Mitchell Caplan pulled out of Merrill Lynch's conference. Today the stock recovered in part on takeover speculation after falling 59% yesterday on bankruptcy fears.
Macy's, Inc. (NYSE: M) 3% HIGHER; reported Q3 EPS of $0.10, ex-items, above the consensus of $0.07. Revenues came in at $5.906 billion, versus the consensus of $5.91 billion. Macy's sees Q4 EPS of $1.70-$1.80, ex-items, versus the consensus of $1.74. Sees Q4 sales of $8.7-$8.9 billion versus the consensus of $8.91 billion
Autodesk Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK) 2.7% HIGHER; Jefferies upgrades to Buy
