Waste Services (Nasdaq: WSII) 23.9% HIGHER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.03, in-line with the analyst estimate of $0.03. Revenue for the quarter was $95.8 million, versus the consensus of $104.8 million.
Airtran Holdings (NYSE: AAI) 19.7% HIGHER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.20, 16 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.04. Airtran Holdings revenue for the quarter was $541.95 million, versus the consensus of $535.48 million.
PPD, Inc. (Nasdaq: PPDI) 18.8% LOWER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.38, 1 cent lower than the analyst estimate of $0.39. Revenue for the quarter was $364.9 million, versus the consensus of $365.30 million. Lowers FY09 sales guidance from $1.595-$1.67 billion to $1.395-$1.47 billion, versus the consensus of $1.60 billion, with EPS moving from $1.95-$2.05 to $1.54-$1.60, which compares to the Street estimate of $1.82.
PF Chang's (Nasdaq: PFCB) 16.7% HIGHER; reports Q1 earnings of $0.56 per share, above the consensus of $0.33. Revenues came in at $309.8 million, versus the consensus of $305.1 million. PF Chang's sees FY09 EPS of $1.45-$1.50 versus the consensus of $1.23.
Temple-Inland Inc. (NYSE: TIN) 14.3% HIGHER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.30, versus the analyst estimate of $0.05. Revenue for the quarter was $941 million, versus the consensus of $913.06 million.
The South Financial Group Inc (Nasdaq: TSFG) 11.4% LOWER; reports Q1 loss of $1.08, ex-items, versus the analyst estimate of ($0.81).
PDL BioPharma (Nasdaq: PDLI) 11% LOWER; seeing weakness related to Avastin falling short in colon cancer trial.

Tupperware (NYSE: TUP) 10.1% HIGHER; reports Q1 earnings of $0.45 per share, ex-items, above the consensus of $0.34. Revenues came in at $462.8 million, versus the consensus of $459.5 million. Tupperware sees Q2 EPS of $0.57-$0.62, ex-items, versus the consensus of $0.50. Tupperware sees FY09 EPS of $2.16-$2.26, ex-items, versus the consensus of $1.96.
Conceptus (Nasdaq: CPTS) 9.8% HIGHER; reports Q1 loss of $0.05, ex-items, versus the analyst estimate of ($0.16). Revenue for the quarter was $27.2 million, versus the consensus of $26.22 million.
Capital One Financial (NYSE: COF) 9% LOWER; reports Q1 loss of $0.39 from continuing operations, versus the analyst estimate of ($0.08). Revenue for the quarter was $2.89 billion, versus $3.9 billion in Q108.
Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) 8.7% LOWER; reports Q1 loss of $0.57, versus the analyst estimate of ($0.08) and compared to a gain of $1.26 in Q108. Revenue for the quarter was $3 billion, down 62% from the same quarter last year. Cuts its quarterly dividend to $0.05 per common share.
Ford Motor (NYSE: F) 8.6% HIGHER; Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock from Neutral to Buy and added it to their Conviction Buy List, saying the company won't need a government bailout and will benefit from likely bankruptcy filings of General Motors (NYSE: GM) and Chrysler llc. The firm set a $6 price target on shares of Ford.
SanDisk Corp. (Nasdaq: SNDK) 8.5% HIGHER; reports Q1 loss of $0.48, 28 cents better than the analyst estimate of ($0.76). Revenue for the quarter was $659 million, versus the consensus of $537.72 million. On the call, SanDisk (Nasdaq: SNDK) said it sees Q2 sales of $650-$725 million which is above the consensus of $579 million. SanDisk sees Q2 gross margin improving.
Century Aluminum (Nasdaq: CENX) 8.3% LOWER; reports Q1 loss of $1.77, versus the analyst estimate of ($0.98). Revenue for the quarter was $224.6 million, versus the consensus of $229.95 million.
Norfolk Southern (NYSE: NSC) 8.2% LOWER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.47, 7 cents lower than the analyst estimate of $0.54. Revenue for the quarter was $1.9 billion, versus the consensus of $2.04 billion.
Gentex (Nasdaq: GNTX) 8.1% LOWER; reports Q1 loss of $0.01, versus the analyst estimate of $0.02. Revenue for the quarter was $98.3 million, versus the consensus of $104.71 million. Gentex sees Q2 revenue down 30% compared with same period last year.
Arkansas Best (Nasdaq: ABFS) 7.7% LOWER; reports Q1 loss of $0.58, 18 cents below the analyst estimate of ($0.40). Revenue for the quarter was $339.7 million, versus the consensus of $360.76 million.
Plains Exploration & Production Company (NYSE: PXP) 7.4% LOWER; announced a registered underwritten public offering of 10,000,000 shares of its common stock. PXP will grant the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to 1,500,000 additional shares of common stock from PXP. Net proceeds from the offering are expected to be used for general corporate purposes, including future capital expenditures.
Cadence Financial Corporation (Nasdaq: CADE) 7.1% HIGHER; reports Q1 loss of $1.48, compared to the analyst estimate of ($0.20).
Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT) 6.2% HIGHER; today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to sell its Broadband Access product lines to Ikanos Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: IKAN) for $54 million in cash.
Clear Channel Outdoor (NYSE: CCO) 5.9% LOWER; Goldman Sachs downgrades from Neutral to Sell and added the stock to their Conviction Sell List.
Aflac (NYSE: AFL) 5.7% LOWER; Barclays downgrades from Equalweight to Underweight.
AMD (NYSE: AMD) 5.7% LOWER; reports Q1 loss of $0.62, 4 cents better than the analyst estimate of ($0.66). Revenue for the quarter was $1.18 billion, versus the consensus of $977.80 million.
Vornado Realty Trust (NYSE: VNO) 5.5% LOWER; commenced a public offering for 12,500,000 of its common shares. In addition, Vornado expects to grant to the underwriters for the public offering an option for 30 days to purchase up to 1,875,000 additional common shares to cover overallotments, if any. Merrill Lynch & Co. and J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. will serve as the joint book-running managers.
C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ: CHRW) 5.4% HIGHER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.50, 2 cents better than estimates. Revenues were 1.69 billion vs. $1.92 billion consensus.
Gilead Sciences (Nasdaq: GILD) 5.2% HIGHER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.66, compared to the analyst view of $0.59. Revenue for the quarter was $1.53 billion, versus $1.53 billion analyst consensus. Also seeing upside on the back of several positive analyst notes related to strong HIV drug prospects.
Illumina (Nasdaq: ILMN) 5.2% LOWER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.28, 9 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.19. Revenue for the quarter was $165.8 million, versus the consensus of $163.82 million. Sees FY09 EPS of $1.13-$1.23, versus the Street estimate of $0.89 and revs of $700-$720 million, versus the consensus of $717.6 million.
Intrepid Potash, Inc. (NYSE: IPI) 4.9% LOWER; Goldman Sachs downgrades from Neutral to Sell.
Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) 4.2% LOWER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.59, ex-charge, versus the analyst estimate of $0.41. Revenue for the quarter was $21 billion, versus the consensus of $19.37 billion.
