The following is a brief summary of events moving markets today:
  • It was a big day for Coinstar (Nasdaq: CSTR) on Monday. First, Coinstar and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) entered into a new joint venture. Planned to debut in the second half of 2012, "the venture's services will offer all of the convenience, simplicity and value of Redbox® new release DVD and Blu-ray Disc® rentals combined with a new content-rich video on-demand streaming and download service from Verizon."

The company's fourth-quarter earnings came in at $1.00 per share on revenue of $520.5 million, versus consensus views calling for EPS of 64 cents and revenue of $500 million. Looking ahead, the company sees fiscal 2012 revs of $2.2 billion, beating expectations of $2.17 billion.

  • Another Greece-y day: Greece is still in talks to reach agreements on fiscal-austerity measures needed to keep from defaulting. Greece will cut 15,000 public-sector workers by the end of 2012. Delays in reaching agreements helped many blue chip companies to trend lower on the session.

  • FTC issues more M&A scrutiny on one deal: The FTC might be looking to block the proposed merger between Medco (NYSE: MHS) and Express Scripts (Nasdaq: ESRX). Both Medco and Express Scripts shares ended lower, while Walgreen (NYSE: WAG) shares got a little push higher on the rumor, ending the session in positive territory.

  • Though Coinstar won today's battle, Netflix might win the war: "Leaked" information from Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) in a consumer survey earlier had specs for the "rumored" Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) television. In the report, Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) was mentioned as possibly being integrated into the TV.

Due to this rumor, Netflix swing from being down a bunch early to ending the session up 2.2 percent.
