Prudential (PRU) Appoints Scott Sleyster as Company CIO; Several Other Divisional CIOs Appointed

Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE: PRU) today announced several key leadership appointments in the U.S. and Japan, effective immediately. Scott Sleyster has been named Chief Investment Officer (CIO) for the company, reporting to Vice Chairman Mark Grier. Takehiko Fukuda, who currently serves as CIO for International Insurance, will become Deputy President of Gibraltar Life Insurance Co. in Japan. In addition, Tim Schmidt will assume the role of CIO for the U.S. Businesses, and Steve Napoli will become CIO for International Insurance.

Brief Bios

Sleyster joined Prudential in 1987 and has made a number of significant contributions to the company. Prior to his role as CIO for the U.S. Businesses, he led the Full Service Retirement and Institutional Investment Products business. He has also served as President of the Guaranteed Products business and as CFO for the Employee Benefits Division. Sleyster began his career at Prudential in the Private Placement area of Prudential Capital.

Fukuda joined Prudential in 2005, serving as CIO of Gibraltar before being named CIO for International Insurance. Previously, he was head of Manulife Financial’s investment operations in Japan. Prior to joining Manulife, he served for nearly two decades in the investment management division of Mitsui Mutual Life Insurance Co.

Schmidt joined Prudential in July 2010 as Managing Director and the Institutional Lead for Asset/Liability Management, overseeing the Retirement and Group Insurance businesses. He has led numerous key projects for ALM since joining Prudential. Previously, he served in a number of senior leadership roles at MetLife, including CFO for U.S. Business Distribution and the Individual business, SVP of the Wealth Strategies Group, and Head of the Portfolio Management Unit.

Prior to assuming his new role, Napoli was Managing Director and head of International Portfolio Management for Prudential International Insurance (PII), with responsibility for overseeing investment policies and portfolio strategies. He joined Prudential in 1986, serving in the Financial Management department and the Portfolio Management Group before moving to PII in 1998.
