Shares of Noble Corp. (NYSE: NE) are higher today on takeover speculation following the sudden departure of Chairman/Pres/CEO, Mark A. Jackson, announced Thursday night.

Wall Street analysts have speculated that Jackson's departure could have been related to a clash with the company's board on industry consolidation and the company's strategic direction.

A director of the company told Bloomberg that the resignation of Jackson was for personal reasons and unrelated to differences on a merger strategy.

Shares of Noble are up 3% in mid-day action.
