Genworth Financial Inc. (NYSE: GNW) has elected former Senator Kent Conrad to serve as a new independent director.
Conrad, 65, served as a U.S. Senator representing North Dakota from January 1987 to January 2013. In April 2006, he was selected by Time magazine as one of "America's 10 Best Senators". At the time of his retirement from the Senate, he was chairman of the Senate Budget Committee. Before being elected to Congress, Conrad was the North Dakota tax commissioner from 1981 to 1986. He holds an A.B. degree in Political Science from Stanford University and an M.B.A. degree from George Washington University.
Conrad's election to Genworth's board of directors increases the size of the board from nine to ten directors.
