The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will move to hire a head of laboratory safety following a recent mishap that potentially exposed a CDC scientist to the Ebola virus last week.
Reuters noted that, following an investigation into the mishandling of anthrax and bird flu in CDC labs last summer, putting a person in charge of overall safety was a key priority.
The incidents put into the forefront safety practices of over 1,000 labs in the CDC network.
Dr. Rima Khabbaz, director of CDC's Office of Infectious Diseases, is leading the search for the key, high-level safety chief.
