It's like watching two formerly great fighters slug it out in the 15th round of an 11 round match. Except, more tiring for the observer.

According to reports out Thursday, Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is going after Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) with another lawsuit over three patents. The move follows a series of suits in May.

The new suit by Nokia is being filed in Munich, Germany, following previous suits in Dusseldorf (2), Mannheim (2) and Munich (3).

Nokia has maintained lawsuits only in Germany.

According to FOSS Patents, the three new patents are:
  • EP1474750 on a "method and system for storing and transferring multimedia tags" (Nokia is also asserting this one against HTC in Mannheim.);

  • EP08040461 on a "method and apparatus for updating the software of a mobile terminal using the air interface"; and

  • EP1148681 on a "method for transferring resource information."
The new suit comes at a time when patent infringement is becoming more and more lucrative for mobile giants. Last week, Nokia sued Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) over its IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi standard, which Nokia says it didn't grant rights for Google or Asus (the maker of Google's new Nexus 7 tablet) to use.

Shares of Nokia are flat while RIM shares are higher in early trading Thursday.
