A U.S. judge on Tuesday granted Apple a preliminary injunction preventing Samsung Electronics from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in the United States. Samsung's touchscreen tablets, powered by Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android operating system, are considered by many industry experts to be the main rival to the iPad, though they are currently a distant second to Apple's device. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh had previously denied Apple's bid for an injunction on the tablet and multiple Galaxy smartphones. However, a federal appeals court instructed Koh to reconsider Apple's request on the tablet. "Although Samsung has a right to compete, it does not have a right to compete unfairly, by flooding the market with infringing products," Koh wrote on Tuesday. The ban order will become effective as soon as Apple provides a $2.6 billion bond to protect Samsung if it is later determined that the ban was wrongfully applied. Samsung, which has already appealed the decision, said it doesn't expect the decision to have a big impact on its business. The ruling only affects Samsung's older 10-inch tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1. It does not affect the updated Tab 10.1 II, which was unveiled in May 2012
