Vringo (VRNG), Nokia (NOK) Patent Deal Could Spell Trouble for Google (GOOG), AOL (AOL), Others

Following Vringo's (AMEX: VRNG) patent deal with Nokia (NYSE: NOK), as announced earlier, traders might have a few big names to focus on.
Earlier in the week, Vringo got a pop after it was reported that AOL, Inc. (NYSE: AOL) agreed to enter a partial patent settlement. Following Vringo's recent acquisition of Innovate/Protect, Inc., it's been on a patent litigation tear.
Mainly, traders might keep an eye on Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), which is the main focus in the claims. The suit focuses on how Google ranks search results.
In addition, Target (NYSE: TGT) and Gannett (NYSE:: GCI) were named as customers, with IAC/InterActive (Nasdaq: IACI) and AOL as partners.
Whether the new deal will provide more offense for Vringo or bolster its defense wasn't made clear. The release stated that the 500 patent portfolio "encompasses a broad range of technologies relating to cellular infrastructure, including communication management, data and signal transmission, mobility management, radio resources management and services."
Shares of Vringo are up just over 4.5 percent in early trading, mainly due to the uncertainty surrounding what sort of cash payment will be made to Nokia. Nokia is also higher early Thursday.
