UPDATE: Disney (DIS) May License 'Star Wars' Films to Netflix (NFLX) for LatAm Market
(Updated - September 17, 2015 12:48 PM EDT)
Disney (NYSE: DIS) in talks to license "Star Wars" to Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) in LatAm, according to the WSJ.
UPDATE - According to the report, the deal would include five Star Wars
movies that Disney owns.
21st Century Fox's (Nasdaq: FOXA) Twentieth Century Fox holds the rights to the 1977 original.
The move comes as Disney moves to expand awareness of the franchise in LatAm ahead of the release of the next Star Wars
film.
The U.S. and Europe are already very aware of the franchise, meaning a similar deal in those two markets is unlikely.
Netflix is up 0.5 percent Thursday.
