Autodata reported today that the seasonally-adjusted annual rate (SAAR) for U.S. auto sales in December was 17.34 million units, compared with the consensus estimate of 18 million units. The number is down from 18.19 million units posted for November 2015 and 16.92 million units in December 2014.
For December, total light-vehicle sales rose 9 percent to 1,643,289 units, from 1,507,339 unts reported in the same period last year.
Passenger car sales fell 3.2 percent in the month to 656,261 units, while light truck sales increased 19 percent to 987,028 units.
