Twitter (TWTR) Suspends Two Sports-Related Accounts Over Copyright Violations

Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) is firming up on content sharing and willing to suspend accounts that don't follow the rules.

The NY Times noted Tuesday that Twitter suspended both Deadspin's and SBNationGIF's accounts on Monday. Deadspin is owned by Gawker Media, while VOX owns SB Nation.

The suspensions of the two accounts came after complaints were filed by the NFL and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) against Deadspin, and from the NCAA's Big 12 and SEC conferences against SB Nation.

Complaints stem from the accounts re-posting GIFs or Vines of game highlights, according to the report.

Deadspin received 18 copyright notices covering 16 Tweets. While the posts weren't removed, the GIFs were.

Twitter has since unsuspended Deadspin's account. SB Nation's GIF account still appears inactive.

On Monday, the NFL said it asked Twitter to disable links to “more than a dozen pirated N.F.L. game videos and highlights. The organization noted, We did not request that any Twitter account be suspended.

Shares of Twitter are positive early.
