Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) is lower Monday morning amid the social media platform getting another bump higher in the respect category.
Senator Ted Cruz selected Twitter to announce his plan to run for U.S. president in 2016.

Cruz becomes the first major candidate of either party to formally announce their intention to run for office.
Twitter has become somewhat of a more reliable, go-to platform over the last several years to issue breaking news. Because of its accessibility, first-hand accounts and media of breaking stories can immediately flood news feeds, often times beating out major players in the news segment.
Shares of Twitter are down about 1 percent.
