Tripadvisor (TRIP) Files Suit Against Google (GOOG) in Europe Over 'Anticompetitive Practices'

Tripadvisor (Nasdaq: TRIP) is said to have filed a lawsuit in Europe against Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) over how the search giant organizes its search results.

The complaint seeks justice on "anti-competitive and unfair practices by Google that harm the marketplace and consumer welfare," according to Tripadvisor's filing.

Expedia (Nasdaq: EXPE) made a similar filing last week with the European Commission. Expedia said Google discriminated against other services in search results and prevented some websites from accepting ads.

The EU's competition commissioner will decide this month whether to proceed with a case against Google.

According to data from U.S. and European regulators, Google has just about 70 to 75 percent of the U.S. search market, while that number jumps to 95 percent in Europe.
