HUD, or head-up display, is typically used in the aviation industry, but according to a new study on Reportlink.com automotive industry growth for HUDs could take off in the next five years.

Head-up display superimposes images onto the inner side of the windshield to enable drivers to view the information while keeping their eyes on the road.

The market size of HUD in 2012 is estimated to be $991.86 million and expected to reach $2.91 billion at a CAGR of 24% from 2012 to 2017. The major players in automotive HUD market in the US are Pioneer, Delphi (NYSE: DLPH), Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL), Microvision (Nasdaq: MVIS), and Honeywell Aerospace (NYSE: HON).
