Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) is on watch Monday following a notable accident involving one of its Model S sedans over the holiday weekend.
Reports had a Model S stolen from a service center in west Los Angeles early on July 4th. The driver of the stolen Model S led police on a chase, collided with several cars, and stuck a light pole, which caused the car to split into two parts and ignite a battery fire.
Simon Sproule, a spokesman for Tesla, commented to Bloomberg on Sunday, We’ve asked to take a look at the vehicle as soon as that’s possible ... There aren’t so many S’s involved in major crashes, and certainly not quite like this one, so we absolutely want to have a look to understand what happened.
Shares of Tesla are down about 1 percent in early trading.
