Tesla's (Nasdaq: TSLA) move to ramp production ahead of the Model X launch appears to be taking share.
According to data compiled by InsideEVs, Model S deliveries hit around 2,500 units in September. Prior to last month, the best estimated monthly shipments (Tesla does not give out this information) was 1,800 in June 2014.
Much of the ramp in deliveries can be attributed to the Fremont plant shutdown. Due to a late restart, some of the deliveries might have gotten pushed into September.
As mentioned earlier in the year, CEO Elon Musk plans to produce 9,000 vehicles and make 7,800 deliveries in Q3, which might account for the push.
Again, we have to emphasize that the September delivery numbers are guesstimates given that lack of specific information available to InsideEVs and other Tesla watchers/blogs.
Shares of Tesla are down 1.9 percent Wednesday.
