Tesla (TSLA) Plans Supercharger Partnerships with Manhattan Parking Garages

August 13, 2015 6:22 AM EDT

Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) is planning to announce plans today which would put it in partnership with two dozen Manhattan garages for high-speed charging stations.

According to the NY Times, this will be the first foray into parking garages for Tesla's Supercharger network. Typically, the company has constructed the 240-volt charging stations along rural highways and in between major cities.

One spokesperson for Tesla commented, We wanted to move to an urban charging network that meets the needs of those who live in apartments or commute into a big city [...] Naturally, Manhattan was the place to try this for the first time.

Tesla's plan is to offer the ability for owners to park by the hour, day, week, or month at participating garages. The company will move to expand its network with several more garages over the coming months.

Shares of Tesla are indicated higher Thursday morning.
