Tablet PC orders are expected to reach between 21 and 22 million units by the end of the third quarter, up from only 13.5 to 14.5 million units shipped in the second quarter.

While about 14 to 15 million of these units will be Apple’s (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad model, Amazon’s (Nasdaq: AMZN) new tablet PC is receiving a lot of hype with orders expected to reach 1 million to 1.2 million.

Non-iPad models will account for 7 million to 7.2 million of the total units ordered and upstream component suppliers have already begun ramping up production for all models. Since the second quarter, RIM (Nasdaq: RIMM), Motorola Mobility (NYSE: MMI), Acer, and Samsung Electronics have all begun shipping new tablet PC models. In the third quarter, Amazon and Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) are expected to begin distributing theirs.
