Supply Chain Confident RIM (RIMM) Has Winner in BB10

Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) thinks its upcoming BlackBerry 10 (BB10) operating system will be a hit. Supply chain vendors are starting to agree.

Last week, RIM released quarterly results which largely came in better than expected. In addition, the Waterloo, Ontario-based mobile giant issued an update on BB10, reaffirming its commitment to bringing the OS and two new devices to market early in 2013.

CEO Thorsten Heins noted that about 150 telecom carriers were testing BB10 and 120 enterprises were testing BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10.

Over the weekend, Digitimes issued research stating that the supply chain is also bullish on prospects for BB10. The firm noted that RIM has been adjusting BB10 and the devices as market trends have changed. BB10 will be more touchscreen friendly and RIM will also adjust service fees while no longer bundling products with plans. This will make BB10 more attractive to non-enterprise users.

Despite RIM remaining challenged in the U.S. and Europe, handset OEMs said its demand remains strong in markets like Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Shares are indicated for a lower open Monday.
