Sprint (NYSE: S) announcedthat it will begin to offer Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone 8 models near the middle of 2013. Curiously absent from the announcement was Nokia (NYSE: NOK).
Instead, Sprint will offer devices from HTC and Samsung. HTC currently has its 8X and 8S, while Samsung's WP8 model is the Ativ Odyssey. It wasn't made clear which devices would debut on Sprint's network.
Why Samsung wanted to go with HTC and Samsung over Nokia is anyone's guess. Given that there are only a handful of WP8 models on the market right now, choices are slim anyway.
Maybe Nokia will get a delayed start with Sprint. It's Lumia 920 has, after all, received solid accolades in the past.
Shares of Nokia are down in early trading Tuesday.
