Sprint (S) Employees Briefed on Upcoming iPhone 4; Next-Gen iPhone Release Still Foggy (AAPL)

Sprint (NYSE: S) is getting closer and closer to a launch of Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone.

According to blog reports Tuesday, a Sprint source said the company had briefed employees on the upcoming launch of the iPhone 4 (no mention of the iPhone 5 yet), and said the device would be available in October 2011.

The source at Sprint also suggested Sprint may carry a 4G iPad - quite a remarkable development since consumers and Apple aficionados would expect an iPhone to run on a 4G network first.

One blog, tuaw.com, went a completely different direction, however, saying "If the associate's information is accurate, Sprint will not get the iPhone 5 until 2012, most likely by early spring." Prior reports indicate the iPhone 5 will be out in mid-October.

Apple is 1.1 percent stronger Tuesday, while Sprint is up 3.4 percent.
