Source Suggests RIM's (RIMM) BB10 Might Be DOA -BGR

Everyone knows Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) is in the dumps this holiday season.

Following its earnings debacle last week and a delay to BlackBerry 10 due to a delay with an "LTE chipset," investors seem to be hanging on to straws as the stock sunk.

Comments from a source Thursday suggest things aren't about to get any better any time soon. According to BGR, one developer for the PlayBook 2.0 OS said BlackBerry 10 is basically dead in the water.

The source noted both email and Instant Messenger are better on 8700 than the new OS. (Yipes.)

BGR's insider also suggested RIM's Mike Lazaridis was lying about the whole LTE chip thing. The reality is, the source is saying, RIM doesn't have a working product yet. (Double yipes.)

The nail in the coffin might be the final comment, which the source said he was told by a high-level RIM employee: BlackBerry 10 isn't even as good as iPhone iOS 1.0 or Android 2.0.

P.S. - iOS is now on version 5.0, and Android at 4.0 -- both generations ahead.

RIM is up about 1 percent, though most investors are hoping for M&A. That, too, doesn't appear to be panning out, as many have left the party after being scared off by rapid sales declines in the U.S. for BlackBerry.
