Sony Doesn't See EA Access as 'Good Value' for PS4 Customers (MSFT) (GME) (EA)

July 30, 2014 11:43 AM EDT

While Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) opted to enter an agreement with Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: EA) for the EA Access subscription service, Sony (NYSE: SNE) has decided not to join the offer for its PlayStation 4 gaming console.

According to Game Informer, one Sony representative said, We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect ... PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price. We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.

Shares of Sony are positive Wednesday. GameStop (NYSE: GME), which fell 5.8 percent yesterday on the news, is up about 0.6 percent.
